NEUROBIOLOGY OF ATTACHMENT

The Red Alert Brain

When early development is marked by trauma, a child's brain wires for independent survival. What looks like willful defiance stems from a fight-or-flight reflex.

1. The Amygdala Hijack

In a securely attached child, the prefrontal cortex mediates reason and impulse control. For a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), the alarm center (the amygdala) is locked in persistent activation. Even in a loving, peaceful home, their nervous system registers routine guidance as life-threatening peril.

  • Persistent hypervigilance and scanning for threats

  • Immediate fight, flight, freeze, or fool reactions to basic instructions

  • Dramatically decreased ability to process logical consequences while in Red Alert

2. Why Closeness Feels Dangerous

Early trauma teaches the infant brain that caregivers cannot be trusted for survival. When you offer warmth, nurture, or soft eye contact, their defensive instinct paradoxically registers vulnerability as danger: provoking sudden rage, control battles, or emotional stonewalling.

  • Affection is perceived as a trap or loss of safety

  • Attempts at closeness trigger fierce pushback to re-establish control

  • Healing demands predictable structure before emotional intimacy can take root

The Paradigm Shift: From Offense to Compassion

Your child is not trying to break your heart: they are desperately trying to protect their own. Recognizing that their hostility is a symptom of fear is the foundational turning point for real healing.

HONEST READINESS CHECK

Is This For You?

Game Changer Parenting is not a gentle-parenting platitude or a quick-script hack. It asks for radical intentionality, clinical insight, and courageous boundaries. Review the alignment check below with an honest heart.

This is NOT for you if...

We believe in radical transparency. Save your time and money for a different program if these reflect your steadfast position:

  • You would rather let your child's life be driven by their whims than step into consistent, confident leadership.

  • You are searching for a magic overnight script without addressing your own emotional regulation.

  • You believe angry yelling or harsh punishment is the only way to obtain compliance.

  • You are unwilling to implement practical structural safeguards or change your schedule to prioritize healing.

  • You want to treat complex attachment trauma as simple disobedience that can be lectured or counseled away.

  • You are unwilling to praise your child's tiny, good choice in the midst of an onslaught of terrible choices.

This is MADE for you if...

You are ready to learn to embody loving authority that empowers real healing at every level:

  • You are ready to follows the script that replaces sleeplessness with quiet, safe nights.

  • You want real-world, trauma-informed strategies to soothe fight-or-flight triggers, dissolve defiance, and rout manipulation.

  • You are willing to stop letting your child's behavior define you and instead let it illuminate their hurt.

  • You are committed to building protective environmental routines that restore household respect and peace.

  • You long to embrace, teach, and encourage ALL your children.

  • You crave a compassionate, unvarnished parent community that truly understands your path.

FOUNDER & PARENTING STRATEGIST

Meet Heidi Elmore

B.A. Psychology, M.S. Development Studies, Advanced Parenting Specialist

"When we understand the cry beneath the behavior, healing truly begins. Let your heart resound with the words, 'I am for you, not against you.'"

Heidi's passion is for parent-child relationships, having worked with traumatized children and their caregivers on 3 continents. Her educational and professional grounding isn't just theoretical: she has lived in the trenches of severe attachment disruption as a seasoned long-term respite parent, navigating high-stress escalations, vehement rejection, and the daily exhaustion that conventional advice can't even fathom.

Anchored by the heartbeat of Malachi 4:6 — to turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents — Heidi founded Strong Love Parenting, LLC to provide a lifeline of step-by-step guidance and deep reassurance for families on the brink of despair.

Commitment to Inclusion: Strong Love Parenting serves all families with unconditional compassion and respect. We uphold a strict non-discrimination policy, walking alongside every caregiver regardless of nationality, creed, background, or family structure. We desire healthy relationships for all!

THE FOUNDATION FOR STRONG LOVE

Support The Community

Early childhood trauma ripples beyond the home: it reshapes classrooms, relationships, businesses, and whole communities. Early childhood trauma is often behind the senseless violence and rampant crime in our cities. We must work together to make a difference, becoming an informed, compassionate, and tenaciously strong circle of care. The Foundation for Strong Love exists to educate the community about early childhood trauma and empower exhausted parents to access the supports, resources, and interventions they need along a complex journey of healing. Whether you need scholarship assistance or want to stand in the gap as a supporter of families, our shared mission starts here.

PRACTICAL CLARITY

Your Questions Answered

Clear The Path

Every tool, boundary, and protocol in this framework serves one purpose: restoring peaceful connection in your home. Here is honest clarity on what to expect and how your access works.

Do you have these items?

Why is there a 2-year access limit on the program materials?

The 2-year access window is intentionally designed to support your family through both active crisis stabilization and medium-term integration. Healing attachment requires focused, consistent implementation rather than passive bookmarking. Two full years gives you ample time to complete the core modules, revisit the clinical frameworks during seasonal regressions, and establish lasting patterns that promote growth.

Why does the speaker in the training videos wear a head covering?

The decision to wear a head covering was one of sensitivity to groups who would feel more comfortable in that kind of learning environment, but also one of practicality when it comes to trying to maintain visual continuity in light of unruly, unpredictable hair.

What supplies do I need?

You can view every recommended item via an Amazon wishlist. This list contains items necessary to carry out the changes recommended by Game Changer Parenting. Other ideas for your consideration such as one-player, brain-building games are in our Amazon list titled “Optional Supplies for Game Changer Parenting”.

Why are coded door alarms required?

Door alarms help traumatized children feel more secure in their bedrooms so they can sleep more soundly, and it enables the rest of the household to sleep more soundly knowing that that child will not leave the bedroom unannounced during the night. This question will be answered more thoroughly in the training videos.

Is this framework suitable for foster, adoptive, or neurodivergent children?

Yes. Strong Love Parenting was built specifically for complex attachment challenges, RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder), and trauma histories as is common in fostered and adopted children and where standard parenting approaches or conventional reward charts routinely fail. Frequently, the child in question has multiple diagnoses including neurodivergence. Participation in video conferencing is key to helping those parents work through any necessary modifications for that specific child. Where attachment disruption is less severe, the child will progress rapidly and come away from Game Changer Parenting with a framework that helps parents and child work through challenges together as the child grows up.

How quickly can our family expect to see measurable behavioral changes?

Many parents notice valuable differences in themselves during Module 2 and notice major changes in their child during Module 4 and beyond. By the end of Module 10, which can be completed in 5 month's time, your household will be solidly on the road toward lasting transformation.

Can both parenting partners share one account?

You only need to purchase one enrollment in Game Changer Parenting, but you will be provided with 2 logins so each caregiver can track their video progress separately.

Is Game Changer Parenting religious?

No, Game Changer Parenting is for people of all faiths and creeds.

How long does Game Changer Parenting take?

Parents are recommended to complete Game Changer Parenting within 5–6 months, followed by one month off, and then repeat the course again at your own pace without the video conferences because you will ABSOLUTELY hear important things you didn’t catch the first time AND realize how far you’ve actually come already! The most successful parents follow this pattern.

What about therapy?

To be clear, Game Changer Parenting is not therapy. Rather, it trains parents to care for their children in a therapeutic manner that supports psychological healing and growth. Strong Love Parenting recommends that the parents participate in therapy for themselves at least monthly, if not weekly, in order to support them with the high load of stress on them. If you aren’t sure what to work on in therapy, Game Changer Parenting will have recommendations for you throughout the program.
